What is the best exhaust setup

i have a 1990 gtu
and i was wondering what would be the best exhaust setup

.ive seen both single and double exhaust setups on my car , but i want to know whats the most functional hp wise

and what do you feel looks better
ive seen some fc's with drift setup with a single exhaust pointing at a odd angle from the rear bumper and ive seen dual setup the same way pointing in diff directions
i think that looks neat

who cares what your exhaust looks like? god dammit i hate posts like this.

FUNCTION is more important. always always always. if its not, sell your car. get a 'sport compact' and you'll be in heaven

if your serious, on the n/a i like the racing beat collector header/presilencer/ypipe/mufflers... very nice

I like my RB downpipe/test pipe to my greddy power extreme catback. dual exit exhaust, not really that loud, but not stock either. While crusing down the freeway ya cant really notice it (its there but just the sound of it i guess is so pleasing that it dosn't matter ). Just research a bit find sound clips and get what you think would work for ya.

single exhaust is more functional its less restrictive than a dual.

but then again i love dual so id just spend the money and get a header, and a nice ypipe to dual exhaust

He's right, single is usually a less restrictive way to go and it is also generally much lighter than a dual setup which is also an advantage. I know that our (CorkSport) weighs considerably less than the stock unit, I know this from my own experience installing the stuff on my car.

(Buy our exhaust )

i'd say the best will be no header with no emissions and wired ports. That will have the least backpressure

Course, if you want to drive the car on the street ever, a RB header to ANY 2in-2out presilencer to dual... say... flowmasters would be pretty damn good.

RB header, presilencer, and the Corksport cat-back is what I have at the moment and I love it. Nice gains, I've lost tons of weight over stock. Just buy their presilencer also for the muffler. Otherwise its too ******* loud . (No offense Eagle).

Welcome to the forum!!!

Anyway, personally I'm running the rb header, to the stock main cat, to the dynomax catback with the y-pipe. As "restrictive" as this setup is its loud as hell. Well not loud loud...but loud enough to make me ride the clutch at night so I don't get pulled over.

Bottom line, headers will make your car loud no matter what. Theres also the issue of the bottom end. I found that I lost a few hp down low (below 2.5k to be exact) after the header was installed. Pulls like a mother up top tho

I also suggest doing a search on the true dual setup...there are HUGE threads with HUGE debates in them. Tons of exhaust theory and stuff. Good read IMO.

The exhaust doesn't really effect how high you can rev your engine... There are many more factors that effect that way before exhaust. But as a rule, single large pipe is going to be louder, so combine it with high revs, and it will be much louder.

CorkSport and the N1 are pretty much the same pipe setup. You're gonna need a decent resonator either way.
