what is this for, why is it open and should i put whats missing or make a block off plate. im trying to keep the car with all the CA emissions, so if it has to do with that i prefer to put it back on.

If you're trying to keep all emissions, your ACV is missing too. It goes where that block off plate is next to the split air pipe connection & turbo water feed line. The split air port doesn't do anything without an ACV and air pump. It just goes to a hole behind that block off plate.

 

Will it cause a rough idle if i leave it the way it is? I have a rough idle right now and new spark plugs helped a lot but i still notice poor idle (revs bounce between 700-900 rpm range). I just got it and want to just get everything back to runnin good

 

it shouldnt cause a rough idle. it actually shouldnt even have any vacuum going from that opening. but if you want to try, you can buy a block off plate and put some sealant on it.

 

that passage goes to the ACV, which you've blocked off, so if it does do something your block off plate is leaking

 

found more... what are they, what do i need to do, does it need to be reinstalled, etc. and remember, i didnt unplug/remove anything from this car. I literally got it last sunday so now im just trying to put it back together because although the PO said he took great care of it, it seems as he didnt.

88, I'm not sure what you mean, if you need just the pump assy or if you need the lines too. If you want to keep power steering...never mind, you're asking what you can take off. Well, the pump assy has nothing to do with emissions, IIRC CARB cares only about how the engine breathes, not how hard it is to turn your steering wheel. If you have a non-PS rack then remove it all. If you want to de-power, you can remove it aaaalll. Just be sure to properly de-power your steering rack as well.

About #3, that filler neck doesn't look stock. The nipple on my filler neck routes to the charcoal canister for the EVAP.

 

No, im Actually tryin to put it back on. The previous owner took it off, i dont know if it was depowered correctly but i like power steering so i want to put it back on.
As for the filler neck, idk what he did and removed so thats what im trying to figure out what to do. I dont think the charcoal canister is still there so do i plug that or leave it open to breathe?

You can't block that nipple off on the filler vent.
How would you like it if someone blocked your nose and mouth?.you'd smoke too on De-cel!
the 4 colored plugs are solenoid plugs,and I can see you have no Rat's nest.(emissions crap).

 

I do not envy you. I've been looking for A/M charcoal canisters and cannot find any. the charcoal canister stores the fumes from the gas tank while the car sits, then feeds the fumes to the intake as the PCV valve is opened. I hate to think what a replacemng would cost from Mazdatrix or a parts store. If you want to pass CARB or whatever torture the Kommiefornians impose on you, you'll need the canister. And the EVAP does help a little with fuel economy. As long as the PCV system still works you should be able to cap that line. If you plug it and the engine smokes on deceleration, then you have pressure building in the crank case and it sounds like the PCV isn't working. I hope this isn't a car that someone brainlessly hacked the emissions equipment off. For now leave it unplugged, maybe rubebr band or zip-tie a piece of cloth over it to keep dirt out. But you might blow a seal somewhere if you cap it and PCV is inop.

I don't see the lines in the picture. It might be better if you just cruised the part-out ads in the classifieds on this site or posted a WTB. Kinda bad timeing though, i had planned on de-powering my steering when I did a turbo swap. If you still want the pump/lines/rack when I do you're welcome to them.

 

thanks this actually helped a lot. I see FCs in junkyards around here regularly, and my friend said he would hook up prices on new/remanned parts for the power steering. but as you said, it does seem like the PO was trying to get power out of it in all the wrong ways (ie. removing emissions equipment, unplugging sensors, removing a/c and power steering, etc.)

all i need to know is what that bunch of sensors goes to (i think the green one is for the o2 sensor), and what the connectors are in pic 1 and 2. and just fyi they are on the bottom of the transmission if anyone needs to know where they are located

 

Green connectors are all diagnostic. The O2s connector is a single shielded black wire, the connector is in the vicinity of the intake manifold/snorkel area. But that harness may have been trimmed back. honestly I'm not very knowledgeable to these car's CNS's yet, and you might have a S4, I have a S5. And then we might as well be comparing your a Subaru and a Saab.

 

The last pic goes to A/C. the 3rd pic is shift light indicator it think. I know where it plugs into but not sure if its for the Shift light. I have my motor and trans out of the car so If you want a pic of how its hooked up send me a PM and ill take one of it out of the car wired so you can see.
