well, i think i found why im running lean...

i changed my fuel filter today and it was brown.....rust.... i guess my gas tank is rusted on the inside and clogging my sock on the pump. i can run 10's to low 11's on my wideband untill 6,000 then it goes strait to 12 so im stuck at 6grand shifting point untill i check out the tank. im hoping that i can drain it a few times to get me through untill i can come up with the mone for a tank... what kinda process is it changing the fuel tank?? as far as hours? and i also looked at my fuel lines and theres no kinks or bends so it isnt that either.
does this sound about right?
mods are in my vbgarage.

On the inside of the filter? Or just the outside. If it was inside how did you see it? Just curious...

you can drop the tank down with just a couple of bolts. 4 if you wanna remove the straps complete. Make sure to release the fuel lines at the metal hose. Than after you remove it, you can take it to a repair shop and then will refinish your tank for you. Will prolly be the cheapest and best way to get it done. Then before you reconnect the fueal lines just disconnect your fuel filter on the tank side and drain the line and use a little pressure to blow out the crap in it (NOTE A LITTLE PRESSURE like from a air hose). Then reconnect everything and call it good. At this point is prolly a good idea to replace in take fuel filter and all rubber hoses at tank side just to ensure longevity and lack of repair later.

If it's silt or sediment all over the bottom of the tank, swap it if possible!
We ran into this same problem with hIGGI's FC, and even with serious cleaning (pressure washing?), he was not able to clean every nook and cranny in there!

There are several baffles inside, and it's next to impossible to get all that crap out short of an industrial cleaning process.

Finding a good, used gas tank should be pretty easy.
Cars are being parted daily.
Just make sure you get the right size tanks, since US-spec cars came with small / Zenki and large / Kouki capacities.
Try drop a note in the For Sale / Wanted FC section below.
You might be even lucky to find someone local to you to save on shipping.

thanks!! i blew through it with my mouth and out come the rust...brown....so am i right? will this be the main reason why im lean above 6rpm's?? the oustside of the filter was kinda bad to cause i think it was origanal, the car was well kept except for the fuel tank..i dont think they put any additives at all in it..

dirt appears rusty as well, but crap in the tank is still crap in the tank. i would pull out the pump and inspect what the inside of the tank looks like.

I had a tank that had been sugared and it was a royal pain finding a good tank + pump assembly for a decent price! All the junkyards that kept fuel tanks around here wanted $250+ - most of them remove the fuel tanks and throw them away before the car is put in the yard. I ended up buying a whole car instead for $350.

speaking of which, if you still need a good tank and are willing to come to myrtle beach, sc then you can have one of mine cheap. ~rich
