Well... I blew up my motor today

The car was 4 months old to me. The motor was rebuilt or replaced before i bought it, however i didn't know the history. I flushed all the fluids and found it to be pretty clean inside....

So I maintained it like a child and hoped it would make me proud. Tonight i took my "child" out to show off to some of my friends. A 300zxTT, a probe GT, and a 300hp 240sx -> silvia s13 conversion. We were all having a blast when i noticed my fuel level was low. Stupidly i went for one more pass under boost. I'm not sure, but i think that's when the rear rotor went out. I couldn't hear it over my stereo though. Sooo i did another stupid thing. I hit the gas harder. That's probably when the front rotor went out. i did get the car home, and found no compression anywhere.

Anyone know where to get a motor for an 89 Turbo?
I'd like to build it up too since i graduate in June and will be working at Intel. Suggestions Please

Whoa, that sucks. I guess I won't be able to see your car in action anytime soon. I don't k now any kouki engines locally. Have you checked out corksport.com for a j-spec engine. It's the engine you want, but it's a gamble all the same. How about a rebuild? Pulling the engine and taking it down to pineappleracing in Portland is also an idea. He makes some good engines from all accounts I've heard so far. Atkins is much closer to you and many people like them. Good luck.

Isn't fc3s.org located out by washington/oregon? They might be a pretty close place to find one.

Did you run it easy for most of the time, and then thrash on it every once in a while? That is what kills a rotary (well, one reason at least). When the carbon deposits build on the rotor and then BLAM, it sees some redline action and boost, and the carbon gets blown out and takes an apex seal with it. I run my '87 TII at around 3,500 RPM 90% of the time. I NEVER let it see under 2000 under load, only idling. And I never thrash it off idle. Bring the revs up gradually (like prestaging) and then mash it.

I drive it hard all the time. I change the oil every 2000miles. It's the first car i've ever babied. and look what happens... it spits up all over me.

I'm just gonna try to pickup a J-Spec motor from www.fc3s.org.

does anyone know if non modded j-spec motors will work with the us computers?

Right, but if more than likely, he fucked the rotor housings. Probally blew seals, which nicked the housings. If the housings are ok, then it would be an easy at home fix. Buyin new housings is when stuff gets pricey. It would still be easier, cheaper to do it your self. Get the gaskets, apex seals and springs from either Atkins or www.racingbeat.com, and while you are in there, get Racing Beat's porting template, and port that bad boy!! If you need new housings, I would bite the bullet, and get brand new ones. More expensive, but will last a lot longer.

Damn, that sucks.

Are you going to MSD again this year with Jordan? If so, I hope to see your car up and running again. I'd love to get a better look at it than I did with Stephen at the dyno in November...

Hope everything works out for you.

Now that i think about it, i'm not sure what's necessary to get the 300hp that I'm thinking about. I would like minimum turbo lag (of course). But i don't know what's needed in terms of fuel and any other type of management hardware. Same computer or new computer... lemme know

If the housings are bad, then you might as well get a jspec. If they're good, rebuild it how you want it.
Arpus: If you read this early Saturday morning, I hope you can come out and play with us on Chuckanut (in the Z I assume). Good luck.

I would, but I gotta work so I can put my Kouki back on the road. (That is the oddest name for a car, even for Japan).

Kouki is a term, not a name. There is zenki, chuki, and kouki. When describing cars is means early, middle and late models respectively. There was no chuki model with the FC but there was with the FD.
