Weird Question: Spider Spray on Water Pump

i've got a spare water pump that's been outside for a while, so I'm pretty sure there are some things living in it. i want to spray a little hot shot down in the top to encourage everything to leave (i'm not a huge fan of spiders), but i want to make sure there isn't anything in the residue that might harm the coolant seals or water hoses. i don't know if anyone has experience with pesticides on parts, but i thought i would ask. thanks.

hmmm I wouldnt, pesticdes are nasty and god knows what else is in it, it could harm the seals in the pump, I would just submerge it in water, then spray it out real good.

hey, thanks for the replies. i don't think i'll use spider spray. i like the parts wash idea, don't have any of that yet, though. i think i'll dunk it in water or spray it out with the garden hose. thanks again.

Just rinse it off with water or brake cleaner.

Just the water pump, or the whole front cover? Just a water pump sounds like a job for the big boot kick to me.

I'll second that though, I had an old hood lying out in the yard for a few days while I painted a '79 Trans Am, and I reached down to flip it up, and actually stood it up and was admiring how there was no rust on it after laying in the yard with sprinklers and rain for a week, and realized that fireants had built their nest in the corner I was holding it up by. :P Amazingly I was only bit twice before I realized I had my hand in a fireant bed. I guess they were as surprised as I was.
