Honestly, I don't think anyone here knows. This question is asked several times a week and the only answer we usually come up with is "vacuum leak or tps" or better yet "OMG this has been covered a million times! Search!!!!" lol. Good luck figuring it out, let us all know if you come up with a solution.

well ill tell ya what i did tonight..since it could be because of the emissions removal and possibly the cat removal, or possibly all of the above (I have no idea) i decided tonight to do the TB mod, and order a cold air intake. oh and guess what i found 2 almost complete 2nd gens hard tops at the junk yard so i believe i will go snag a AFM from one of them and just replace that too. its all cheap to just replace....haha.

well, my emissions and cat are both still intact and i have a surging idle like you described. So I don't believe thats the problem. Vacuum leak still sounds right to me though.

i had the same exact problem. i searched everywhere for the problem. the vaccum lines looked in great condition, but i decided to change them anyway. come to find out there was a small pinhole that i didn't find earlier. readjusted the TPS and now it runs fine. oh i forgot i have a 89 gxl n/a. hope that helps.

well after finding out the the idle set screw hole in the black plate was completly full of crap and cleaned the throttle body like no one else's business, i tinkered with the tps ignoring the whole 1k ohm and messed with the throttle cable and the idle set screw and finally got rid of the whole surging issue....runs smooth...but will check soon to see how far the tps is off

I'm trying to picture what this means. Can you elaborate on what and where this is or provide a picture? I have the surging idle problem also and would like to find a fix. Thanks!
