weird idle

hi everyone..im new to this site and to rotary engines. and i just happens that i just purchased a couple of RX-7s. my 93 RX-7 is totally out of commission, so my question is out my 86 RX-7.

when i start up the car...it idles a 3k. seems a bit high to me. so my buddy starts to adjust the idle and the engine seems to fluctuate. if we set idle anywhere lower than 3k....the idle fluctuates. its very disturbing and its hard to explain. but i guess i tried. thanks

Not to be an ***, if you would of searched, you would have found MANY MANY topics on this. It is normal to see 3k at startup. By adjusting it cold lower than 3, once it warms up your idle will be super low and probably not idle right. It idles at 3k to get the cats warmed up faster.

no problem. if you let it idle for a few minutes or drive it for a while it should drop in idle. Mine seems to drop from 3k to about 2k, then after a few more minutes down to its normal idle of about 800rpm
