Weird electrical problem, security and idiot light
3 seperate things going on... 88 GXL, fully loaded. security system.
1 - My door lights, interior dome lights NEVER come on with the door open, but it just did the other day and never came on again. The only time I ever see the little "security" light "blink" or even light up is when I stick in my key in either door lock cylinder to unlock my door. Usually when I get out of the car, I manually lock from the inside and both doors lock (passenger door has an actuator) and close the door. (no need to keep handle up, stays locked either way).
So a few days ago, my alarm went off, horn honking, etc. and opened my passenger door and the door lights and interior lights were actually on and working like they should. Since then the lights are never on. (I could turn on the interior dome lights manually).
I've read a bunch of threads on the security system, but no still can't figure this out.
2 - Sometimes when I turn on the headlights and after going out for a drive and then after I park go to turn off the lights, my driver's side pops up and down and I will either have to move the switch back to "on" or play with the pop up switch thing. this only happens seldomly but don't know why? Most of the time the lights go down and stay down while the switch is in the "off" position.
3 - Fuel idiot light never lights up as fuel guage goes to 'E'mpty. Is there a harness or connector that might be unplugged? location?

On the fuel pump, inside the tank, there is a thermistor on a long rod. It has gone BAD. Remove and replace same.
I'd check the wiring out from the fuel pump plug to the warning cluster first. Just in case. Basically find the right wire per the FSM wiring diagram and put a gnd on that wire with the key to ON. The light should light up, proving the problem is with the thermistor in the tank.
Bottom of this page: http://www.mazdatrix.com/86-92Electrical.htm the thermistor is on the long rod with the wire wrapped around it.

1. I'm going to assume the interior lights come on when they sense the door is open. There's a little "button" on the door that triggers that response (I think). If it's stuck/messed up and always showing the door closed I guess the lights wouldn't come on because the car would still think the door is closed.
Just speculation but maybe something someone can work off of.
