water temps: how hot is too hot?

i've got a 87 turbo(modified).

it appears my electric fan isn't kicking on.

my aftermarket temp gauge got up to 210f a few times and when i parked the car it puked up about 12 ounces of coolant from the overflow bottle.

i was wondering, how hot is too hot?

p.s. i did a search and browsed through a bunch of posts but couldn't find the info i was looking for.

210 is about as high as you want to go. Normal operating temps is between 175 and 190.

Spec.

Dude, 'bumping' is NOT allowed in the tech sections, first off.

As for water temps, well, above 212 F or 100 C is too high. Basically, you don't want your coolant/water to boil. I know the boiling point is elevated by the coolant at least a bit, but if you're running above 100 C, you're too close to screwed anyway.

180-210 is normal.
210 being the limit during the summer here.

That being said. I've driven my car and it's hit 220-235 for short periods while on the highway in the summer. DEFINITELY not something you want to see.

My temp numbers are taken from right after the thermostat.
