Question Water temp gauge q's

I'm looking into getting a water temp gauge soon, but have a couple questions. Mechanical or electrical? Which should I get? Does it matter? What about the ranges of temps? I was reading through some old threads about water temp stuff and people were saying that anything under 240 is fine and lots of people's temps sit from 190-210 or so... Should i just get one that goes up to 250 then? I see that different gauges come with different size fittings, does that matter at all? Thanks for any info you can give me, and if you're wondering I'm looking at the Autometer Z series gauges
