water temp don't work

Hey today I tried to install my Autometer water temp gauge but it doesn't work.
I put the sender in the plastic part instead of the water pump cause I was scared to break it.
Is that why it doesn't work or is it because of bad wiring? The needle stays at 100 and doesn't move.

Thanks a lot!!

oh, because the sender has to be grounded. Since you put it in a plastic piece, it's not grounded.

You can solder on a ground wire to the body of the sender and ground it to the chassis.. That's why I didn't tell you to use the plastic piece

Oh well
