Water-cooled TMIC?

I was doing the final long-block pre-assembly on our JDM S5 Tii to check everything out before dropping it in. I threw the old TMIC on but had ebay'd a replacement since the one that came with my TigerJapanese sourced engine was all beaten up.

I went to put the better looking TMIC on and found it had two water pipes - probably 1/4" id - coming out the back on the passenger side.

The original TMIC says

Rotary Turbo
with intercooler

it's silver on the base

The replacement TMIC with the water lines coming out says

13b intercooler
Turbo II

and has a black base. There is writing on the drivers side of the base saying

12308
Toyo Radiator

Anyone know the story on this TMIC? Did they run a separate water pump and mini radiator to improve performance of the TMIC?

Thanks

They aren't water pipes, they are for the AWS.
