Wastegate Woes....

so here's the problem, i just installed a BNR3 turbo onto my car ( S5 TII ), and somehow the wastegate actuator arm came appart from the hot side of the turbo and is just hanging there, i tried revving before i noticed it and it sounded like there was grinding/rattling comming from my turbo so i check things out and the wastegate line is off, and if i move the little "nub" the rod is supposed to sit on it shakes like nuts very loosly, is this supposed to be THAT loose?...

regardless, how can i fix this, i didnt look closely at it yet, but, will it just slip back on?, is there supposed to be some sort of cottor pin holding it there?...

i know when i took it around the block it had a huge boost leak but did hit 6psi, afterwards i couldnt see even 2....

then the metal grinding noise, i should mention that started today, after i changed the oil line gaskets on the turbo....

ok so another thing, i called the local tuner shop and they said if the arm falls off the hot side of the turbo chances are the spring inside has fallen off and is probably rattling around inside, and that THAT would be the problem i'm having....

umm, is this correct?...

Your rattling is from the wastegate flapper door, b/c the actuator rod isnt connected it'll just be flapping in the wind; this would be why you have low boost. Reconnect it with an "c" clip.

all i need is a "C" clip?...

the actuator by the compressor housing on mine is at a slight angle, is that a problem?...

it's bent towards the inlet approx 30degree's....

maybe the BNR3 turbo is supposed to have this?...

Yeah, just a clip. Not sure the size though, small....
Your actulator might be on angle b/c the stage 3 uses the t04b comp housing, which is bigger.

Hope this helps

Did the arm fall out completely? or did just come off of the flapper?

If it just slid off, you should be ok. Check it, see if theres tension on it. Then pull on it and put your finger on the nipple to check for a leak, or blow into it.

If it fell off completely, you need a new one.

turbo problem is fixed, havent taken it around the block yet but the mani. was a little loose too causing an exhaust leak....

so bascally the only thing i have left that i'm wondering about is the compressor surge when i revv it. it's not as bad as before and the BOV goes off, buuuuut?...

i believe where the air pump used to be, the block off plate had a nipple on it and the previous owner even used it for a BOV vac source....

the BOV is working perfectly fine, but i still get compressor surge, i tapped a nipple into the hard pipe just after the compressor side on the turbo because my turbo was never tapped for one, that goes to the selinoid for my profecB, then to the wastegate on the turbo....

i'm kinda confused....

did you adjust your BOV spring??? what kind is it (BOV)? if your getting surge wouldnt it be the BOV not working correctly!?!?!
im really not sure, im just throwing ideas up in the air.

i have a blitz DD, it works perfectly fine, when i boost and say, hit 8psi i hear the BOV like normal and get a loud fluttering noise which i believe is compressor surge ( i've heard it before ), out the cone filter ( neutral revv )....

a couple of my friends have the same thing with bigger turbo's, but mine's loud and obnoxious, i dont think it's right....

my spring is tightened alot, so maybe i should try loosening it off a little?...
