wanting to upgrade my turbo for cheap

are there ANY other common turbos similar to ours in size that will bolt up to our manifolds? i'm wanting to just get a turbo that is close to the same size as stock but will hold boost til redline. like maybe a mitsu "big 16g" or something of that nature. i know so many DSM people that it would be real easy to get a 16g turbo for cheap. just bolting it up would be the problem, and i'm sure the hotside is too small, but i'm just brainstorming here

i'm sure it would be more cost effective to just upgrade my stock compressor but i dont know how to do that without sending the turbo off for weeks to have it done correctly...

I dont believe any aftermarket turbo will bolt up to our manifolds. A local turbo shop should be able to do what BNR does without having the car down for weeks.

Also, if you have a bit of spare cash I would just buy another S5 turbo , and have that sent out to BNR. Then when you get it in, you can just swap it out, and then sell yours to recoup some money.

i've actually found that a friend of mine rebuilds turbos and there is a place locally (a republic diesel) that balances turbos. i may just get a to4b wheel and have the diesel place machine it to fit my housing and balance it. that way i could use my stock manifold and lines etc. what do you think?

I think you will have problems.

You could have your turbo rebuilt with higher flowing wheels but you would have to know what kind to put in. Then you need to balance the potential with your stock wastegate.

You also have to now balance you fuel with the higher air flow.

The reason I went with a BNR is because its a proven method he does em all the time and he guaranteed I wouldn't have boost creep. Also I called him on the phone and he answered all my questions.

If your on a tight budget, check the message boards, ebay, thepartstrader.com for a used namebrand hybrid turbo

i want to know the same thing as jacobcartmill. I have also been thinking about how to do something like this for the last couple weeks. There has to be a way to do it cheaper than 5-700$. All i really want is to be able to hold 10psi till redline, nothing more. I hate watching the boost gauge drop to 5psi by redline.

Raising boost is alot easier than lowering it. Get a boost controller.

who said anything about raising and lowering boost? the dude said he wants to be able to hold boost til redline, just like i want to. getting a boost controller has nothing to do with the stock turbo bleeding boost in the high rpms...

If you want to hold boost until redline just get a new wastegate.

I'm going to tear open your chest and lay eggs in your esophagus. Sure you don't have boost leaks? I like giving misinformation so that people get frustrated. Har, har, har...

I already have TurboXS BC,There is no way the wastegate is causing this. i hold 10psi rock solid till about 5700rpm then it drops off rather quickly. From what i have read the turbo cant flow any more. Or mabeymy car is just fucked up? I guess i ll just have to save up for a bnr stage 4.

I was looking for a stock turbo because the upgraded one I had never spooled, anyways banzia racing said he had a stock one for 100 bucks. So I bought it from him and come to find out it was an upgraded one that has the same housing however it has 8 fins instead of the stock 6 so I don't know exactly what it is however I do know that I hold boost till redline everytime.

How the hell is that possible, what is wrong with my set up then?
If you know alot about making hybrids explain it a little bit such as, where to get the parts required. From what i have readfor what i want to do the stock s5 hotside is fine as long as the wastegate is ported, and that the all needed is a larger compressor wheel and housing.
So expalin it a little for me and others, So can i just go out and buy a used TO4b and swap the copressor side or what. You could make this a whole lot more understandable.

Well then youre the one car in the world that does.

Do a search and look at how many people have the same problem. The car, bone stock from the showroom, wouldnt hold boost upto redline.
