vrooooom --CLUNK!-- broken diff mount?
I went autoxing in the rain yesterday, and managed to spin more than a few times... (heh heh) Anyway, driving home, I noticed that when accelerating from a dead stop, I would get a clunk sound coming from the back half of the car somewhere. I'm pretty I read somewhere that this means I broke a diff mount. Is this something I can fix myself? How much money am I looking at to have a mechanic do it? thanks
If its a diff mount it should clunk every time you get on it hard...
So from a stop... or flooring it from a cruise.
My rx-7 mechanic told me it was like $350 to fix, but thats becuase my front mount is broken. If its one of the rear mounts, they dont take as long.

This is a common problem with our cars. I'm sure it's the front diff. mount. I took mine to a driveline specialist and had him weld a piece of angle iron in there so it won't break again! Soul Assassin advised me to do this. It worked for him, so I figured it would work for me too! I'm running around 275 HP to the wheels. When you start running that much, you have to do something to the mounts. They were designed for stock performance.

Well, I didn't get on it hard on the way home, since it was raining and all, and I'd had my fill of spins for the day on the autox course. What are the chances of having the rear mount break too while driving around and having the diff fall out the bottom of my car? I'll try to take it to the mechanic this weekend...
my front mount broke off when i installed my lsd
not sure why?
i was 40 miles from home but made it home ok
to lower the diff. it would be like a one day job
and a lot of work but its fairly easy if you can do mechanic work
you need 14mm,17mm,24mm,13/16mm tools and its very
hard to lower it,you practically have to pry it down

I was experiencing this clunking, i swapped the front diff mount for another one i had, i still have the clunking, i aint sure what it is, i plan on replacing all the mounts (subframe AND diff) when i drop my other motor in and add some new rear suspension parts in a few months time. anyone else got any suggestions????????

If its like mine, its only when i get on the gas.
Im guessing the read mounts would make pretty much the same sounds
RXSTASY1, do you have any pics of your modifed mount, or Soul's? I want to do something to hold the power better, and this looks like the best way. Just want to see some pics of it in use.

if you busted the rear mount you owuld know it! more than likely your front one is hanging on by a thread! i removed that gay *** front counterwieght thing and welded angle iron arund the diff mount and waa laa 550 rwhp and still havent snapped it! i normally dump the clutch at about 7k launching so i know it is tough!
