Volvo FMIC Install Pics
Here is the latest side project from the HOUSE of BANZAI:
My 50.00 Volvo FMIC Install.
I removed the existing Radiator support with the trust PLASMA CUTTER, Then started the Mock-Up for the fitting of the Volvo FMIC. The Radiator will be installed 3" behind it. It will require re-working the lower radiator outlet due to interference with the front sway bar.

It's one of the better "junkyard" units to use in TII's. The most talked about ones, and in my opinion in order of performance are
- NPR large
- Volvo
- starion/conquest

Yes, the NPR large is FAR too big for the majority of TII owners.
The starion/conquest intercooler is probably the best junkyard unit for most TII owners. It's not too hard to cut off the ports and put larger ones on, and shouldn't cost more than $50 to have a shop do it.

I'm not too sure of the years either, but if you search for "Volvo Intercooler" on ebay, you will find a handful to choose from. The unit being spoken of in this thread is in a few volvo cars and MAYBE even a saab car or two. Take a look at some of the pics posted above - if it looks like it, then it is it. Other volvo ic's are obviously different looking.

The Volvo IC is pretty decent, and even better when you factor in the price. I have one sitting in my brother's garage he is eyeing...and also an even BIGGER Saab unit that looks pretty similar, as well as the "normal" Saab, a Starion, Tbird, etc. JY IC's are fun!

Ok better pics tonight. Here is the first Mock-up of the Rad and FMIC. I have taken the stock mounts off the side of the test rad.

Here is the main area of concern right now. The lower rad outlet to swaybar clearance. I may solve it with a different radiator. I will now for sure tommorow when I mock up the low splash guard.....

Hmmm... the Supra (Mk III) flows more than any of those, (large OR small NPR, Volvo, or Starion) has a pretty good amount of surface area, (more than the starion or small NPR, less than the Volvo or large NPR) and passes more air more easily through the surface than any of them so it won't restrict cooling as much. It's ugly though.

Are supra stock intercoolers that good? Many drag racers running over 30 psi use the NPR large unit, but I don't see any using the stock supra intercooler. This must mean something...
