Voltage problem

Out of nowhere today my voltage went up. At idle its around 14 but if i give t even the slightest bit of throttle it pegs at 16 and all the dash lights come on. I'm replacing the alternator this afternoon but if that doesnt fix it, where should i start next?

I would start next by giving more details. is this S4, S5? stock alternator or FD swap? hopefully it will just be a bad regulator and replacing it will fix it, if not let us know and we can try to help you out.

I believe if a voltage wire (positive) from the charging system is touching a ground that could do it as well but it is much more likely an alternator problem.
