Voltage Drop to about 7v when cranking.

Just got the engine together. Have a relocated battery. First time cranking it fired up, then died. Then, it got hard to crank, voltage drops. Battery is a sold 12+v.
Thanks

You hav bad battery connections or wiring is insufficent gauge to support the wire run for the relocation.

Ok icemark. I will check my connections. The positive cable is pretty fat. I used the Summit Relocation kit.

Yeah, I saw a Fc the other day, that was having cranking issues, and it turned out to be a build up of corrosion between the battery post and the battery clamp. You couldn't se the corrosion on the outside of the clamp or on the battery, yet when metering the clamp, voltage would drop when cranking, while metering the battery terminal itself it showed held voltage.

doesn't it mean that the battery is bad when it drops that low while cranking? at least thats what the last 2 batteries did for me when they where bad. I had them tested at autozone to confirm. maybe not your case though.

If the battery is dropping yes, it would be bad.

If it is just the clamp, or the wiring connections, and the battery itself is staying high, then no.. it would not be a bad battery.
