vibration at high speeds

Changed wheels today... same thing... its not so much a vibration, as it is a low, bassy note. I don't think its the wheel balancing because this is the second set of wheels, and both still have the balancing weights, and the same symptoms...

At speeds of 160km/hr or over, (Track only of course ), it seems as though there's a bassy note eminating from the rear of the car. Could it be the carrier bearing?
Thanks
-Ross

Could be anything from bearing, drive shaft, axle, cv joints, etc.

Might as well check everything at the same time, could save you some trouble in the future.

How the hell do I go about checking those? I mean when replacing the wheels today, I noticed nothing abnormal. Everything looked near-new. boots were not torn.

I'm thinking carrier bearing. Anyone else?

Jack up the rear.
E-brake off.
Trans in 4th.
Turn the wheels back & forth.
Push/pull the wheels in & out.
Feel & listen for excess wear/backlash sounds.

why not just take your car to a tire shop and have the tires ballanced? My car shook like a ***** at 80mph. Took it to the tire store and drove out a happier guy.
Yes, the weights are still there but tires need to be reballanced periodically depending on wear. Not to mention that you may have flat-spotted them.
