Tranny mount stabilizes the rear of the engine/tranny as a "unit" (since they are bolted together). A little vibration from the engine becomes a lot of vibration when it gets to the end of the tranny. Hold a golf club out and move you hand a little and watch the greater movement in the golf head at the same time. You'll see what I mean.
Just wanted to let you & everybody else know what I have found so far....
I work at a garage part time and for the first time since I had some free time, I was able to throw her on the lift. I inspected everything. Engine mounts looked good, front tranny mounts looked good......then I came to the rear mount.....
You were correct, she had quite a bit of play in it and the bushing was nearly dry rotted away. So, I guess it is safe to say that I found my problem.

Solved!!!
Just wanted to throw in this update for future searchers. It turned out to be my rear tranny mount. Just from looking at it it seemed ok, but upon further inspection I did notice too much play in the bushing. Ordered a new mount from rx7world, by far the cheapest....and installed it. LET me tell you what a WORLD of diff it made!!! I feel like I am driving a brand new car and ALL of the vibration is gone now.
