Vert trunk won't unlock

On my '88 vert the trunk key turns, but it won't unlock. The interior pull lever doesn't do anything either. I know there is at least one rod that goes from the lock to the latch, and this may have come off. I can't get to the workings from the inside; the opening is way too small. Does anybody know how to get the trunk open without destroying the trunk lid?

i had the same problem with my vert i had to cut the plastic going to the trunk from the inside then i undid the two 10 mm bolts that hold the latch on and it will open

it sucks to have to cut that plastic but i got it open plus im sure you could find some new plastic on the forum and a new latch what happened on mine was one of the springs stretched out and came off the latch

ok, this might be redundant, but which way are you turning the key in the trunk?
if you turn it clockwise, it will open it. if you turn it counterclockwise, it will lock it so that the interior lever will not work. This is for valet, you can lock your trunk and glovebox and give the valet the key to park your car.

oh, also , are you sure you're using a master key, and not the valet key itself?

(I think the master key has the round plastic, the valet key is all metal---at least mine is)

anyone else?

It's open! It wasn't a disconnected rod. It was a stuck mechanism jiggled loose by a great deal of thumping with one hand just below the center tail light while turning the key to open. Once it was open, a lot of liquid wrench was applied to both the locking mechanism and the latch before it worked smoothly every time. Other vert owners might want to do a little preventative lubricating before it gets this bad.
