vert trunk cna't be open

I tried to open trunk with key and lever besides front seats, but nothing, I heard a click but I can't open it.
Any suggestions to open trunk without broke lock?

What year? I have a 1990 , with no key accessability, and when I couldn't get it to release, I had someone gently lift of the trunk first, then I popped the lever. My problem was that the bolt holding the fuel and trunk latches had loosened, so a few turns, and it works good for me now.
