Vert tranny swap and rearend

Hey all,

I am thinking about doing the tranny swap in my vert as its still an auto. I have only had it about 3 months. I have a parts coupe to get the tranny and rear end from.

I have read the auto to tranny thread but have a few questions.

The questions I have are, the car I am taking the 5spd from is an s4 and my vert is an s5, does that make a difference and what all exactly do I needd to make it work?

Also, I have a parts s4 GXL that I was going to take the rearend out of since it has LSD and put it under the vert what all do I need to swap out to do that?

Thanks,
Brandon

To my knowledge the S4/S5 trannys are identical in terms of bolting up. I believe but I may be wrong that you need the manual driveshaft, but check that elsewhere (e.g. http://www.rotaryresurrection.com 's tech section or mazdatrix's references or somewhere). Search here for a lot of info on this...

The diff is a normal diff swap AFAIK. Check the diff mounts while you are down there... it would be wise to get new competition diff mounts and tranny mounts while you have everything dropped since they go about this time anyway. Mazdaformance will hook you up with those.

However, watch the gearing ratio on the diff. The 'verts had a good ratio (I think 4.1:1 or something)... not all S4 cars had that ratio. Again, search.

Its a worthy swap if it all comes together! Best of luck to you.
