Variable Resistor Adjustment

Variable Resistor Adjustment

Ive been having some idle issues. I adjust the TPS and the Idle air screw on top of the throttle body but one thing I cant seem to figure out is how to adjust and test the Variable Resistor. It is on the passenger side by the front shock tower and has a small head for a flat head screw driver to turn left or right. Is there any procedure I can follow to adjust the variable resistor back to normal after I messed with it not knowing what it was?

warm the car up to temp, jumper the set coupler, idle the engine down below 1k RPMs and then turn the screw counterclockwise until the engine stumbles then 1/8 turn clockwise.

Oh, dang I was hoping I could do an Ohmmeter test like the TPS. Thank you for responding.

Whoops, i did mine backwords, thought i followed the FSM, swear it said turn it clockwise to highest RPM than adjust back down to 750 by the idle screw.

Maybe thats why its having trouble running with the lights and heater on lol

you can do it various ways but i just do it the way i mentioned as i tend to treat it like an idle mixture screw on a carburetor. default is half way but it is there to adjust for engine wear and some minor vacuum leaks.
