Variable Resistor
I was fiddling to keep my idle at 725-775 but can't find a solution until I decided to check my variable resistor, the reading on my DMM was more than the specs. It was 5.7 ohms. I disconnected the wire and alas! my idle was stable at 750, ran the car for 30 minutes still no sign of bouncing idle on my tach. My question is what happens to my car running without the resistor? Will my gas consumption suffer? hurt the engine? your expertise on the subject will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
The variable resistor is only used to adjust idle mixture, so its role is minimal. I'd guess that the ECU uses a default setting if the resistor has been disconnected.
Did you try adjusting the resistor first? The happy medium should be somewhere between R and L.

Please use caution when adjusting it though. If its epoxy'd carefully remove it first but be warned if you turn too far it will break the pot. Don't ask how I know. Going and dumb lol.
I got it, FSM stated that you only play around with your VR if you change your engine, which I did. Fresh rebuilt. Followed your instruction on the happy medium setting. Idle is awesome. Thanks for your help.
