engine will not idle/possible LIM leak

i just reasently got my fc back from a guy that did my swap for me...
i got it back running but with no idle..i have to be on the gas in order for
it to stay running...The guy that did the swap said "there no idle beacuse it was
an intake leak at the lower manifold, due to a missing/ broken bolt on the manifold.

my question is can that missing bolt really be causing just a bad leak....?
he also told me that it might need a intake manifold gasket....
it wont idle under 2000rpm...

-thnx

Unmetered air from an intake leak can cause the problem you describe. Is the "missing/broken bolt" the cause of the air leak? Could very well be the cause. But before assuming the problem is caused by a manifold leak, check the intake plumbing for a disconnected AFM, loose clamps or other air leaks between the AFM and the throttle body.

dont forget to put a description of the car. year, engine aspiration etc.. at any rate, i would be questioning why he didnt fix the bolt/leak or replace the gasket before he installed the engine into your car...it would be common sense to replace all external gaskets on an engine, especially if its used, before you install it. that missing bolt can cause a vacuum leak and it can make the engine idle rough for sure. i would fix it right away. get some starting fluid and squirt some down towards the suspect leak with the engine running and see if the idle increases. or use map gas or propane and see if the idle increases.

its a s4 with a what i think is a 1gen 13b....heres the link to my other thread..

http://https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=790999

that the engine that when in...

and the reason he din't replace the gaskets, he said it was not necesary but had
a change of opinon after he gave it back...

also yes i squirt starting fluid to that where he said the leak was, and it idle perfect...

so is that the preblem?
