^^agrees... ebay is a great place.
First step=3mm apex seals and a FCD. If you don't have both of these don't even think about it.

what do you mean? why would u tear apart your block and put in 3mm seals just to upgrade your turbo? might as well do a full rebuild.

You gotta be kidding me.
There is no need for 3mm apex seals. Do you know what is involved in it? An FCD is a BAD choice for upgraded turbo.

I agree, thumbs down on FCDs as well as 3mm apex seals. If you want to run more boost run an rtek7 ecu or go standalone, but do NOT use an FCD.

Re: Upgrade turbo!!!

Do a search as it has been covered many many times and gives you MANY ideas.
The LEAST expensive for power increase is upgrading the compressor. I had this done many moons ago before the TO4. The LARGEST comp. you can fit is a TO4B 60-1HiFi . That will clear the manifold BARELY.
Best of all everything bolts as stock since you're just changing the cold side. When the turbo is out, port the wategate and rewire the fuel pump. It would be a good idea to get on the dyno and wideband to see if you are running lean. I had 720cc in the secondaries and that had to be turned up via the SAFC.
If all possible, don't use an FCD for high boost.

There is nothing wrong with an FCD. The problem is people run FCD's and full exhausts without fuel upgrades on motors with more than 100K (i.e. motors that are getting tired). When will you guys learn...

FCD's are for those guys who want some more power out of their car, but are not ready to step up to the full standalone unit yet. That being said, they also have their limitations, there is just so much you can do with the stock ECU and an SAFC before you are treading on thin ice. Some guys try to push that line a little to far.. A monster turbo, a stock fuel system, a stock ECU, an SAFC and an FCD are a recipe for detonation!!

...and this is comming from a guy who has turned his basment into an FCD labarotory with circuit board etchers, itty bitty drill presses and solder equipment and a hotline to mouser electronics!!!!

They have their place, I used one for over a year. its all about what you're looking to get out of the car and what you're willing to do to get it!! Stock Turbo, Stock Fuel system, ported Wastgate and Safc and an FCD is perfectly safe as long as you tune the SAFC right and keep your boost levels within reason (by porting the wastegate!) But you are not going to see 300HP that way!!

NOW... I just got a Stage 3 from BNR, we'll see how it works!!

the upgrades for the TII's that rx7store.com sells are BNR turbos.. the biggest difference.. if you go direct to BNR, you will save a couple of bucks... HOWEVER, Bryan doesn't take credit cards yet!! SO, if you are going to put it on plastic, its the rx7store.net!

yup.

As long as the hotside is in good condition.

Look for any cracks around the outside part of where the turbine spins.

I went through 3 hotside before getting a usable one for me rebuild.

The S5 has a divided manifold and a dual opening wastegate.

This is a common upgrade for people.
It doesn't do more boost but is better designed.

Anyway.
Back on topic.

Do a search. Ther eis more to upgrading other than just getting a turbo.

You will need to upgrade the fuel system and electronics.

You'll need a fuel pump and most likely bigger secondary injectors at a minimum.

Then a Rtek(S4 guys so far) or Aftermarket EMS.

Then your turbo and exhaust.

Realistically your looking at around $1k for a turbo upgrade for something like T04 or BNR hybrids.

Also like many have already stated.
3mm seals are not needed!
I believe the guy in my town w/ 570hp is still on the 2mm's.

So guess what smartguy, he gets to use the other option, which is to go standalone. Gee, that wasn't hard.
