Unorthodox Pulleys

I was wondering if anybody around here has put unorthodox pulleys on they Rx-7. I would like to know if they make a considerable different in performance (they are advertised giving 12-16 Hp), and if they are even worth the $189 price tag. If they are worth getting does anyone know were I can get them for cheaper the $189 from the rx7store.

Thanks

I don't see where advertise a 12-16hp gain for an FC NA. But anyways the general attitude has been its not worth it on a street car. Very minimal gains and only making the weak alternator put out even less.

As Ryde _Or_Die already said, the general concensus agrees it's not preferable to put It on a street car. Under driving your already weak Alternator and slowing down the much needed Water Pump does not out weigh the pros to an Under drive setup.

Just to play the D's advocate, underdriving the water pump reduces cavitation. I've noticed my car overheating at the track when I overrev alot (overlyoverrev ).
You could always upgrade the alt., ya know?

I would also like to point out that the 12-16 hp gains were probably on a TII at the flywheel. Wheel hp gains on a N/A would be 5 hp at BEST in my estimation.

i have the unorthodox racing main pulley on my 86 gxl and i definitly noticed a difference the second i drove my car for the first time, i revs faster and has alot better throttle response, i dont know about all the "over heating due to underdriving the water pump" or any bad things with my alternator and i have had the pulley for about 2 years now and i like it and i drive my car everyday, i got mine for $120 used on ebay

Not overheating due to underdriving the water pump, rather preventing overheating due to preventing cavatation.

Its good to hear that you don't have any problems with the alternator, thats my main concern. I might pick one up sometime when I have everything else I can do.

My car reads low at idle because of my underdrive main pulley, 12.7 at idle, perfect beyond that. I have a completely rebuilt alternator on my car too. I'm considering putting my stock on back on there or upgrading to an FD alternator.
