I'm about storing my 7 here in Quebec city. I searched and I've got all the information I need; except for one point: the suspension.

There seems to be debate about this point here on the forum. What I think is that I should put the car on jackstands, just enough to remove some weight on the suspension (I know it's also good to prevent flat spots but I'm not concerned about this issue since I'm gonna need new tires next spring).

The thing is that unloading the suspension is seldomly mentionned and when it is, it seems to be quite a bad idea... WHY???

hmmmm ive never heard of this but seems like a good idea....

i guess ur not putting any strain on the suspension and bushings and what not from sitting so long

you dont want to have the wheels off the ground if your storing it. But the way you described it should be fine if you just pick it up a little. In winter when i store my car i just leave it on all four wheels. You want to keep load on the suspension, and not have the weight of your wheels and brakes pulling down on it if its off the ground.

Yeah I only want to ease the suspension.

A friend of mine has a 300zx, and usually she always put the car on jackstands when it's winter (letting the tires touching the ground). But she didn't do it last winter and she had to change the hole suspension after the storage.

I don't want this to happen to me. The thing is that there are different opinions; I want them to be explained.

I would imagine it's a result of the struts not being designed to stay fully extended for a long period of time. I don't know enough about strut internals to really understand why, but I can see that something designed to seldom if ever "peg out" could have problems if it were sitting on a stop for an extended period of time.

I assume you're talking about the 300zx there; but the suspension was not extended. She had to change the suspension because she didn't put the car on jackstands, because it was not extended. She only drove the car in the garage and let it there.

All I wanna know is if any of you guys had any problem with your suspension after a six month storage, wether you put you 7 on a jackstands or not.
