Under-the-hood/Engine/Etc..

The Rx7 I just picked up, although in good shape, is a tad dirty under the hood.

Along with that, the coolent doesn't look too sharp.

Anyone have some good techniques for cleaning the engine plus all the other stuff under there (what to cover, what not to get water on, etc...), and the easiest way to drain the coolent?

Would it be okay to cover some critical parts up and spray a good portion of simple green all over and spray it off? Or...?

The owner didn't have the orig. owners manual handy... so I'm working on that.

Thanks.

Oh.. this is NOT a turbo.

Oh... one more thing.

Although I've done my share of research on the net... I'm still a little hesitant about the oil for these Rotaries... Can anyone offer some suggestions?

I'd like to stick with Castrol or Amsoil... but should I be wary of anything?

Hey i had the same dam problem... this is what i did... kay get some "GUNK" engine cleaner.. take ur car out for a quick boot. get it pretty hot.. go to ur car favriote car wash.. and there's usually a option for "engine cleaner" select that.. if not just use water and than soap... rise clean and spray down with plenty of GUNK.. it will clean up so nice... i have cleaned mine 2 times this way.. i didn't cover anything but be sure no to try and get the electroics soaked... try and aviod them.. after if u really wanna make her shine use some tire shine on it... it will make all the black plastic shimmer... oh ya and for ur manifold on top of the ingine use a steel brush, spry with GUNK and scrub...u'd be amazed...

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT DO THAT!!!!! yeah you can clean your engine at the car wash like that but so not spray water on a hot engine. that is how you crack your block. the water cools the outside while the inside is still hot and it will crack it. not it doesnt happen every time but it isnt worth the risk. it kinda works like drying mud. you can do everything he said with exception to the "get it prety hot first".
