Exclamation Unable to check engine codes

91 Na

My check engine light comes on while driving once I go past a certain throttle position. If i go beyond that throttle position again the engine cuts out. Limp Mode! I try the prodecude to check the engine codes by grounding the appropriate connector and turning the ignition to on to read the codes. The engine light comes on then off for 2 sec. then on again.... no flashing. I have disconnected the battery to clear the codes, drove the car, same problem withe the engine , same problem with the code check.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions

Thats what I am grounding it to. I have checked codes before without this problem. The check eng. light comes on and stays on with the ignition on, but when the plug is grounded it comes on then off for 2 sec then back on and stays on. So i dont beleive it has anything to do with a bad ground.
