It's a white 10th anniversery, 155,849 miles (Soudns like a lot for a rotary). The owner lists it as $7000, but he lowered it to about $5000. Should I get this one or search elsewhere?

I would only buy that car if the motor was replaced. I dont thing I would even buy it if it was rebuilt because inexpensive rebuilds usually dont resurface the housings, and if they were resurfanced then they are probably out of service limit by now. 8.2:1 comp is good, the car itself is pretty rare. but I would take that that 5,000 and buy another project car like mine.
I paid $1500 for my tII with 141k original miles. so far Im up to about 3400 and I put performance mods and personall goodies into it. also rolled for 3k miles and still cranking. Car is fast but by no means reliable.
You can probably get an 89+ for 5 grand if you keep looking. Just the other week I saw an 87 in the paper up here with 90k miles and a remanned mazda tII motor for 3200 bux.
I think that guy is on crack if thats the original motor. 10th an's really wont be worth much (especially with 156k miles) until they are 25 years old.
*edit* If you want a 10th an then think about this. I test drove one a year ago with 72k miles. The motor was replaced by mazda in 1996 and it had under 20k miles. Car had rb turbo back exhaust and fcd. may have had more but no guages.... He wanted 7000 and I talked him down to 5500, but I pulled out of the deal because I was scared of rotary at the time.
Just my oppinion.

IMO, it is alot for a car with those miles.
You'll either need to replace or rebuild the motor very soon. The shocks may have been replaced, but the rest of the suspension, bushings, and bearings have probably seen better days.
If you want the car to retore it, and are willing to put the blood, sweat, and $$$$ into it, then I'd offer him $4000 tops!!
If you want something to mod for high performance, get an 89-91 TII.
