Turbo spooling VERY loud

I can't say i don't like it... but its starting to scare me. My turbo is spooling very loud especially in second and third gear pulls. Its a louder spool than i have heard on any other FC and even other cars some with big turbo's. Is there something wrong?

you can hear mine spool on the freeway, and I only have a Hybrid t-04. I imagine it has to do with the intake as well.

My BNR Stage 3 also makes a loud spooling noise whenever i am on the thottle and doing pulls. It got recently lounder when i adjusted my BOV, dont know if this well cause any damage to any of the components in the turbo?....

The spooling sound your hearing could be a bad turbo.
It could be the sound of the turbine blades scraping against the housings.

I have a rebuilt turbo and every couple months tyhe hotside bolts work themselves out and it started to push the hotside against the turbine and it makes the spooling sound much louder. Luckily for me I just tighten them back up.

Another though is that you may have a intake leak which the intake spooling sound is escaping through.

When my turbo was going bad, the spool was kind of loud. It sounded like a police siren going off. Does your's sound like that?

its doesnt sound like a police siren, but it almost sounded pretty high pitch last time i went WOT. It could be the blades as Digi7ech said that wouldnt surprise me..... how do i go anout tightening these? i might go ahead and dismantle the turbo if this doesn't work.

I recently adjusted my BOV. Could it be that i have a boost leak coming from my Bov, and it is causing me to be able to hear my Turbo spool under throttle?... it isnt a high pitch sound but louder then normal spooling.

Check the shaft play on the turbo, and look for any scrathing on the compresser housing..

if the turbine wheel is scraping agianst the exhust housing.. not really happends expect for turbo damage..
But if the compresser wheel is rubbing against the comressor housing (cold side of turbo), then it can break of a fin, and metal shaving.. that can sometime get past the IC and cause damage to the motor.

Just check out the turbo before you go from having a $80 turbo rebuild, to a $300+ rebuild.

Turbocity.com has rebuild kits for S4 and S5 turbos.

My turbo sounds like I'm leaking boost. But its just a stock s5 turbo. I think its too loud for a stock turbo. Maybe I need to upgrade it to a 500r kit from a-spec to fix that. I think I'll do that to fix it.

My stock turbo got pretty loud before I replaced it...it had shaft and bearing play, but part of it was the HKS filter seems to make it all sound louder. Now I'm running a BNR Stage 3 with my HKS intake, nice and loud My friend said he saw/heard me pull onto the highway and all he could hear was the turbo, no exhaust note at all lol...it was much quieter with a K&N filter..

I Basically have the same exact set up as you. HKs Filter and BNR Stage 3, and yes it is preety damn loud when you are on the thorttle. All you hear is spooooooooooooooooooling.

I hope this is normal since i am not the only one that hears it....
