turbo running without a turbo
can a turbo engine run without a turbo alright? i know the turbos have lower compression ratio. also will you need to mod the harness or something? for example the engine is a 87 TII engine w/ same harness and a N332 ECU. if i was to take the turbo manifold and the turbo off, can i put a NA manifold on and drive the engine? will it bolt up correctly? just curious and havnt seen anyone talk about this.

Yes. It'll run rich though. I'd throw in an n/a ECU and injectors (possibly AFM and pressure sensor too). Then you'd have to do something about an intake. From what I understand, that should be alright. I plan on running a n/a 4-port for a while, so I've been kind of thinking deeply about it.

well my perdicament is that my 87 TI parts car has an engine in it, and i need to see if it is runnable or not. but the problem is that the turbo is sezied up right now and the odo is reading 150K. it also is from a junkyard and has been sitting since early 02. i can turn the engine over by hand, and i can hear the compression on it, i just havnt gotten a gauge on it yet. and i dont have enough money right now to rebuild the engine. so... if the engine is some what good, i'll run it as a NA till it dies and then go the full nine yards when i have the money when rebuilding it, turbo and everything. i have a daily driver as is, so when it dose die i have a backup car as is. or should i just set the engine off to the side and leave it be till i can rebuild it properly? i guess that is my main question.

A compression test & thorough inspection will tell you if the motor is any good. I don't see why you'd want to go through all the trouble of setting it up to run N/A just to find out the same thing. Just spend the $100 on a replacement turbo and save yourself a lot of time. You're going to spend around that much on an NA ecu, afm & pressure sensor (if you don't already have them) anyway.
