turbo removal
Pretty soon I am going to be swapping out my current turbo/mannifold for another. What gaskets if any do I need to, or should change? Does anyone have any links to detailed turbo removal on a s4 t2? I searched and there were not many topics on this. Someone mentioned fc3s might have something on there site, but I couldn't find anything. All responses are appreciated.
There are two gaskets to worry about.
1)Block to manifold (Expensive)
2)Manifold to turbo (less expensive)
You will also want to get some nuts of the same size and pitch as well as some lock washers and some thread lock. I found the worst part of the job was getting all the stock heat sheilds out.

the heat shieild are a bitch, but the acutal removal is really that hard, most of the work is done from the top and proably the hardest part will the the heat shield so have no fear and good luck
I'm just gonna go ahead and wake this post up again..
I need to remove my '88 turbo/manifold also so that I can send them for rebuild/upgrade and I was wondering if anybody knows where I can find a write up on the subject or even share some tips and know-hows. It will just make the job easier for me since it's gonna be my first time doing it. I tried searching the forum but the gods didn't seem to favor me.. Thanks!

I have a tip:
Stuff an old sparkplug in the rubber coolant line elbow that hooks up to the water pump housing, If you don't plug that up, coolant goes gushing all over the place.
Oh yeah, do the top right-hand nut on the turbo from the bottom.
One more, be very very liberal with the penetrating oil on the downpipe and turbo-manifold nuts.

I already tried www.fc3s.org several times but no luck..
My brother rebooted our pc and didn't install the Java reader yet therefore I can't open the actual links of the site.. I guess I'm just gonna have to wait for him to finish everything or go use vosko's pc..
Aight, later.

I also realize your looking for tips that won't be in the manual. Very important to have tips and work arounds. Have fun.
Try this site and article on R and R the turbo: http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/articles/t2turbo.html

First time I took off my turbo/manifold(which was also the first time working on anything this "mechanically" complicated, it took me 3 hours. Then it took me 1 1/2 to put everything back in place. The second time I took it off, it took about an hour and 15 minutes. Putting it back on was about the same. Be liberal with the penetrating oil. Not really that hard once you've done it once. Just be patient....and good luck!
Don't forget to use anti sieze lub on the nuts when installing everything.
Don't forget the crush washers and paper gaskets for oil and water lines.
www.mazdaformance.com for parts diagrams so you can talk part numbers with a dealer and not "Uh.....I need this washer on my RX-7" Them "Oh hell....that thing"
Mazdaformance.com has great pricing. And if you autox or race (Not street racing) you can join mazda motorsports and get parts cheaper than the dealer.

Thanks for the replies and tips guyz... Now, all I have to do now is find time to do the actual job so that I can send my turbo to BNR's for rebuild/upgrade.. And feel free to give post more tips and know-hows.!
