turbo rattling. wg bushing help

I have a s5 t2 turbo. My turbo rattles because the bushing for the wastegate is pretty worn. So the freeplay doesnt allow it to shut real nice, and it rattles.

Anyone ever change out the bushing? Anyone sell these bushings?

Its for the rod that goes through the cast iron housing. There is so much freeplay, the wastegate doesnt shut well, and it rattles at idle

honestly in all the years I've seen turbos and dealt with them I've never heard of this. Probably time to retire it since it's obviously very old like 100 years or so.

If you really think the turbo is still in top condition I suppose you could make your own bushing out of a dowel hammered into the housing with an appropriate hole for the shaft.

You should throw the turbo away honestly though. I guess I never saw this problem because most turbos die before that can happen. Actually never even heard of this. I'd look into getting a fresh one since it won't function correctly unless the repair is flawless. Just like how it doesn't function correctly now. hows that lag treating you?

One time I had though there was a problem with my engine, Luckily I took the turbo off and noticed the wastegate door not sitting very well. Its embarrasing. Almost every used turbo I have seen is like that. I picked the one that was fine, but now, its got worse play than my other turbos

Does anyone know the material those bushigns are made of? I see its tack welded in place, so I guess steel then?

The problem happens to lot of turbos, but its harder to notice on single valve wastegates. The s5 t2 has one pivot point for the double doors to close teh double wastegates, and it makes it sit really off. So its got a nice ghetto rattle like something is loose

I know what your talking about but I've never seen it. I think it just means buy a new turbocharger and don't waste the time

I would just buy another hotside or turbo for cheap, and swap the turbine housings.

luckily i have another hot side, but I tried poisting a wtb, and noone wants to sell jsut hte hotside. People with s4 t2's would just need the manifold and hotside and havea s5 t2 setup

Ok, I jsut took it apart and its not the bushing. Its the shaft on the valve

Its hard to find those wastegates that are nice and tight. I dont have the money for a full on turbo upgrade. I guess I gotta keep BSing around wiht theses old turbo rebuilds
