this is a 88 turbo ii so it is using the s4 gauges, usually it is around 30% full when it is at operating temperature i noticed yesterday and today that the gauge is around 40 percent full, why is it running alittle hotter than usual? it has a efan, aluminum radiator, and every hose on the motor is silicone, the coolent is also full, its a 1988 turbo 2 with almost 69,300 miles
i know its only 10 percent more but i just dont know why its more than usual
because the weather is hotter than the past couple months.
thats what i was thinking, i was getting on mine (88 n/a) for a couple fun turns and i noticed mine hit half way mark, i took it easy and it came back to normal
i also drove mine yesterday and it was ~40 out, and i noticed it running much cooler
only other thing i can think of is how old is your thermostat? mines about a year old and was getting the same thing you are
Get a REAL temp gauge installed and quit relying on a 25 year old Idiot type "guess gauge".
The Stock gauge doesn't tell you Jack about temp..it just gives you a "idea" that the engine is hot or hotter..it doesn't read the actual temp.
In an S4 normal is about 1/3 sweep to half..at least when you got to H you know WTF is up.
S5 about half or so..
BUT in an S5 it is "OK" operating temp or H..which is TOAST.
