Turbo II redline

I am well aware of the fact that the na revs 1k higher than the turbo 2 and was just wondering why. Besides the turbocharger system what is the difference that makes the dif relines, thanks

boost puts more stress on internal engine parts. turbo cars run a much higher risk of detonation, thus they run 91 and higher octane. imo, mazda did that for reliability

Do you know why engines have redlines?
Is there a reason why you want to rev the engine that high?
Is it for bragging rights?

Sounded like a legitimate question to me, Ted. I'm sure he understands the concept of a redline, he just wanted to know why the N/A was different from the TII. Sounds like the previous posts might have answered his question. I thought Hawaii was a happy place? Dancing girls and beaches... turn your frown upside down.

Take the manual out of the glovebox...if you have a TII you will see that it says the car is setup to run on 87 octane...

actually stock it runs choppy on 91+, 87 makes it smooth. First hand experience. Also Icemark told me to run 87, so yeah that guy is a rotary god.

when i first bought my seven i treid 91.. not the best.. put in 89 and damn within a city block the car changed demeanor.. it was mo betta.... i couldnt convince myself to drop to 87.. but yeah that high octane isnt better for a stock t2.. i can second that.

less octane means running higher risk of detonation witch is no good for apex seals etc... Higher the octane rating better the protection against detonation.

a higher redline is useless unless you make power up that high. shift points should be based on your power curve, not at the limits of your engine's ability.

Actually, somehow I put money this is not the case...
I bet the original poster (hell, I think over half of the people here) don't have any idea why there is a redline.
If people are asking about the redline or trying to raise the redline, then I'm pretty sure they don't know why it's there in the first place.

Those that do know what the redline is for know how to prep the motor properly to be able to do so safely...they wouldn't be asking us for advice on why...

BTW, it's been raining the past two weeks here, and most of the people think we're in Seattle right now. :P
It's not fun when there are "logs" floating around in Waikiki cause the sewer is broken.

id stick with 91 octane just to be safe from detonation. and the redline is there for a reason to prevent too much stress on the engine and where the power is dropping lower and lower. Dont worry about the redline until you start doing some good modifications, because most likely you wont be making anymore power up there.

Not all NA's have a 1k rpm higher redline than TII's.

S4 (86-88) NA's redline at 7k rpms with the ~10lb rotors.
S4 (87-88) TII's redline at 7k rpms with the ~10lb rotors.
S5 (89-91) NA's redline at 8k rpms with the ~9.5lb rotors.
S5 (89-91) TII's redline at 7k rpms with the ~9.5lb rotors.

alot of it has to do with the fact that the stock turbo's don't breath well at higher rpms. Well I guess they do fine for stock boost levels but they do start to become very inificient. If you turn up the boost in your car you will see very quikly that the boost drop's off pretty significantly after 6000rpm

Never heard of a T2 in NZ with dirty injectors like you folks over the pond, I thought the US would have the most primo gas in the world, considering how much you use, let me guess, you still have lead in your petrol to???
