Turbo II Rebuild

im getting ready to purchase a rebuild kit to rebuild my 87 turbo 2. as this is my first rotary, i have not had achance to rebuild one yet. i was wondering is there any red caution flags of what to be careful about when doing the rebuild, is there anything that i can mess up that may potentialy ruin my engine again? and last of all is it really hard to rebuild by your self? all the help and advice is greatly appreciated.

^Don't listen to this guy.

Even if you were to pay someone to do it, they had to start from the same position as you are in now. Just read up A LOT! An FSM helps out like no other. If you don't want to buy one, just check out the FAQ's and there's an online version available. In all honesty it might seem a little intimidating but I a sure you, its not as hard as you might think. Just take it slow. There's a few video's that actually go through a tear down and rebuild with you, which I would recommend for a first build, just as something to reference to. There are also a couple threads on here the go through build processes. Just search around and take your time.

i am definatley planning on getting my hands dirty in this project, i think its stupid when someone calles it their project car when they send it off to a shop for them to do all the work. yea i may ask for some assistance from people who know, but i want to come out of this knowing alot more about the internals of a rotary, then i do at this point. im not incompitent i have worked on cars before, just not rotary. thats why i wanted to find out what to look for as major causes of a failed rebuild.

This is my favorite thread to look at. It goes through pretty much everything from tearing it down to checking the specs of the innards. The archive is full of useful rebuild information
