Turbo Coolant lines

i was just curious if i really need the coolant lines to the turbo. i heard that ppl who upgrade their lines block off the water lines and just run oil return and feed. im going to be upgrading my lines to steel braided and i want to spend the least possible so why buy 4 when i only need 2.

yes, if you are still using the stock turbo then you will still need the coolant lines to cool it. if you're upgrading the turbo a lot of people use a dry center where only the the oil is needed to lube and cool the bearings.
btw if you're not upgrading the turbo, why would you want to replace the oe parts? there is nothing wrong with the factory hoses and lines for the turbo.

Blocking off the coolant lines to a stock turbo doesn't do any good for the turbo. I've seen a few people do it, and my point is simple. The stock turbo was designed with dual internal passages, one for oil (lub and some cooling), and the other for coolant. Aftermarket turbos have larger oil passages to provide proper cooling. The stock turbo was designed to be cooled by coolant and oil, so leave it that way.

im replacing the lines the i just finished my motor swap and noticed that all the lines to the turbo are pinched shut. i wouldn't replace them if i didn't have to. the turbo is spooling excessively loud as if it isn't oil.

If you're keeping the stock turbo, you need the water lines; unless you switched to a dry CHRA in which then you only need oil. I personally like a wet CHRA for DD use, on the basis of reliability if your turbo is modded.

no the motor is a swapped out motor and for some reason on start up it was spooling louder than normal so i looked at all the lines and their all pretty pinched shut. i plan on upgrading the turbo sometime soon and thought that i should just upgrade the lines now

the turbo shouldn't be spooling at idle at all or did you rev it up and hear it spool down?

Is this a rebuilt turbo? If not then you can also question the health of that turbo since mine does not make an audible spool sound till I'm around 0 vacuum under load. You sure your not hearing somethign else like the fan/belts?

Anyway. Do not ditch the coolant lines. It's a stupid move. If you go cheap now you go expensive later.......

Making soft coolant lines is easy ****. FIrst you can find someone on the club here with the Turbo to LIM connector for cheap. The water pump to turbo can be replaced by some heavy duty coolant line.

I am currently using Aeroquip socketless hose. This stuff has lasted a long time and withstood high temps as well.

You can probably buy some from a local Hotrod shop for cheap for a foot or two.
