So, you looked in the "oil hole" and didnt see oil... Um, how much oil did you add?
|
it took 12 quartsto top it off.
|
You added 12 quarts of oil to your engine? WHY did you do that? You some kind of dumbshit?

LOL!!! 12 quarts!!! oil hole!!! hey on the drivers side of your engine you have a dipstick w/ a yellow ring..PULL IT!!!! clean it re insert pull it back out. thats how tocheck oil. 12 quarts is WAY too much did the engine even take all the oil? get a clean drain pan drain back out and start over. do not turn on please!also i would use 20-50 oil weight as thats what i use and a lot of guys on the board live by it. good luck man -Erik

it was always done for me. Please for future referance, consult teh FSM, buy a Haynes manual, and for the love of yoru rotary powered sportscar, learn to take better care of her and read as much as you can when you think you have a problem. Sorry. I shall now end my hostilites but I mean my words, our cars a finicky and dislike being abused in anyway. |
How can you not know that a dipstick is used for checking the level of your oil, any normal person would know this. So if you did actually somehow put 12 quarts in i would suggest you drain the oil and refill it useing the dipstick as a measurement of the level. Or if thats not possible find any competant 12 year old and they will do it for you.

The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan under the car and if your looking for a manual search on the site i believe there is one on the internet.

hope i didnt screw anything up. what do you think would have caused it to start running funny in the first place. |
You can get a Haynes manual from any autozone, advance auto, etc. etc. and so on and so forth. You may have to order it from em but its abotu $20. and if you search on teh forum you can download teh FSM (Factory Service Manual) for free. I would recommend having one or both on hand, the haynes is nice for having handy to read when not online, and the fsm is what you need for more details.

I saw a japanese tourist do this to an eagle talon once. Funny as hell.
Here's the simple steps man 1)Get a friend who knows something about autos... Really. We were all noobs at one time and just reading it doesn't help nearly as much as experience. 2) Go buy the following things. A good floor jack 4 jack stands. several oil pans. A new oil filter 5-6 quarts of 20w-50 (unless you are up north then use 10w-30) 3) Jack the car up and put it on the stands... if you don't know how, then get someone who does as this can actualy kill you so be careful. 4) Under the car is the oil pan. It's pretty easy to spot as it's the big blocky thing. In it is a bolt, called a drain plug. Put a pan under it, and unbolt the drain plug. Wait. Replace pan as needed... Once it is done draining put the plug back in, 5) Remove the Oil filter... it is on top right and looks just like the one you bought. Put some of the oil you bought in and around the lip of the new filter and hand tighten it on. 6) Add 3 quarts of oil. Check the dipstick. Add another, check the dipstick, add about 1/2 a quart, check the dipstick... should be full. And for the love of GOD get a friend with some mechanical ability to help you. |

WOW thanks alot for all the info. |
don't put any oil IN the filter, just on the seal.
and try not to accidentally drain the transmission. those are a bit more difficult to refill. oh, there's two vacuum lines that attach to the filler neck, so maybe you sucked in some major amounts of oil. i don't know. |
I think 88-t-II and Mazin should team up and work on their cars together. Here is what Mazin had to say on a different thread...

hope i didnt screw anything up. what do you think would have caused it to start running funny in the first place. Read the manual to learn how to read the dipstick. That will tell you if the oil level is full or low. Also remember that YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL OFTEN. The rotary is designed to use a little oil, and it will. Turbos use a little more than N/As I think. Check the oil level often and keep a quart of oil in your car so you can add it when it gets low, which it will. |

it was always done for me. Just curious, and please don't take offense, but... Are you a female? If this is so, I commend you for your courage in ebarking on this new hobby. It would explain alot, since at the age when many boys become interested in goofing with cars, most girls are not interested. The culture does not encourage girls knowing about changing oil. |
his profile says he's male

|

88-t-II did you ever get the problem sorted out?

sort off oil problim is fixed i decided to take it to mazda yesterday. they will fix it i hope. |
Oooh boy... Just know that they are going to tell you that everything is wrong with your car! And they will try their hardest to charge you an arm and a leg for everything, so be careful!
Bottom line is, unless you are well off financially, you will have to learn to maintain this car yourself. You could ideally keep taking it to mazda and they'll fix it, but that'll be expensive for sure. |
askin for EVERYONE..how did you get it to the dealership?

Im guessing one of them tow truck things... But thats just a guess. Maybe he cut out the floor boards and flintstoned it there. |
had it towed
stupid question |
Well....I wouldnt have towed it. For what the tow bill, what mazda is gonna charge you then bs you, you could have very well done teh oil change yourself 4 times. thats 5-6 quarts of oil and a new filter each time. Ijust bought a case of Mobil 1 and a mobil 1 oil filter today for my 89 GXL for about $30 and thats nearly the same as what walmart woulda charged me.
