88rx7gxl 11-10-05 09:07 PM

So, you looked in the "oil hole" and didnt see oil... Um, how much oil did you add?

88-t-II 11-10-05 09:10 PM

it took 12 quartsto top it off.

88rx7gxl 11-10-05 09:26 PM

You added 12 quarts of oil to your engine? WHY did you do that? You some kind of dumbshit?

RXn407 11-10-05 09:30 PM

LOL!!! 12 quarts!!! oil hole!!! hey on the drivers side of your engine you have a dipstick w/ a yellow ring..PULL IT!!!! clean it re insert pull it back out. thats how tocheck oil. 12 quarts is WAY too much did the engine even take all the oil? get a clean drain pan drain back out and start over. do not turn on please!also i would use 20-50 oil weight as thats what i use and a lot of guys on the board live by it. good luck man -Erik

And you bought an RX-7 with the intentions of not performing your own work? I never did any work to my first two cars...not until I got my first 7 did I start doing everything....and now I have a second to care for.

Please for future referance, consult teh FSM, buy a Haynes manual, and for the love of yoru rotary powered sportscar, learn to take better care of her and read as much as you can when you think you have a problem.

Sorry. I shall now end my hostilites but I mean my words, our cars a finicky and dislike being abused in anyway.

How can you not know that a dipstick is used for checking the level of your oil, any normal person would know this. So if you did actually somehow put 12 quarts in i would suggest you drain the oil and refill it useing the dipstick as a measurement of the level. Or if thats not possible find any competant 12 year old and they will do it for you.

There is a drain plug under the car on teh bottom of the oil pan....and cine you poured twice teh normal amount of oil you may need to find a pair of large catch cans to get it all, clean units so you can reuse only 6 quarts of the oil to put back in.

dawso 11-10-05 10:26 PM

The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan under the car and if your looking for a manual search on the site i believe there is one on the internet.

i will look for this in the morning thank you.
hope i didnt screw anything up.
what do you think would have caused it to start running funny in the first place.

FirstRotaryExp 11-10-05 10:27 PM

You can get a Haynes manual from any autozone, advance auto, etc. etc. and so on and so forth. You may have to order it from em but its abotu $20. and if you search on teh forum you can download teh FSM (Factory Service Manual) for free. I would recommend having one or both on hand, the haynes is nice for having handy to read when not online, and the fsm is what you need for more details.
