Tune-up question, 1987 RX-7
I have a 1990 RX-7 which I recenty found out has an 87 engine in it. I'm a rotary newb, so please bear with me.
When I start the car, it starts up just fine, but immediately dies. I start it again and must give it some gas for about 3 or 4 minutes, then it's fine. If I don't do that, it dies again. I'm assuming I need a tune-up. Once she's going smoothly, I rev at around 800 rpms, which I'm told is normal low idle.
Again, being a rotary newb, I haven't the slightest idea where to start. I know they use plugs and wires, but is there an entire "tune-up kit" that goes with the rotary? How much am I looking, ballpark to get it tuned up? My two service guys I normally go to want to see the car before they give me a quote. I don't want to sound like a dumbass when I take it to them.
Thanks everyone.

if ur lookin for basic tune up
-plugs
-wires
-oil change, filter (DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC)
-fuel filter
and find some stuff called SEA FOAM(for the engine theres like 3 dif kinds so look for engine specific)
pour half in gas tank with full tank, 1.5 week later pour other half in
(cleans out carbon build up in the engine cleans fuel system)
if you still have problems after this, u might have MAYJOR problems

I would find out how they did the engine swap and if they deleted the cold start assist. That would explain why you have to hold the gas down for a few minutes.
Change all fluids/filters (fuel, oil, tranny, diff, brake etc), clean injectors, new vacuum lines, completely delete emissions if you want, new gaskets, new grommets for injectors, dual Alt belt, plugs/wires, O2 sensor, redo all the grounds and rebuild the starter/alt then you know almost everything has being done. And you will get better milage.
