Is there anyway you can park on top of a hill each and every time you park?????humor

 

Ok. Heres where I'm coming from.

1. On my car, which came with no cruize control, I had two switches on the clutch pedal.

2. At the very top of the clutch pedal was one. It was dedicated to the starter. Its a three prong connector with only two wires. There are two large gauge black/green wires coming out of it. They connect to a connector that is a three prong connector that has but two wires. One Black/red and the other black/green.

3. That switch I have disconnected and jumpered the blck/red and black/green wires on that one plug so I can reach in the window to start my car, instead of having to sit down in greasey pants on the seats and start the car. The connector coming from the switch(two black/green wires in a three prong connector) I left dangling in the wind. Outta sight, outta mind.

4. The other switch is(was) located on a brace just aft of the pedals. Its plunger hit against the clutch pedal and moved in and out when the pedal was moved. It has a two prong connector. One wire is small gauge black/yellow and the other is small gauge yellow/blue. This is a cruize control switch. This switch came with my car although my car originally had no cruize. This switch turned to crumble cake where it pressed against the clutch peda. Took the switch and enviromentaly disposed of it. Now I have installed cruize. Just plug and play. It works fine except I've trained myself to touch the brake pedal to disengage it before pressing the clutch. Works fine in every other respect.

5. The above has little to not much to do with your problem. It just seems MAZDA couldn't figure out how to wire the switches from 86 to 87 when I read ICEMARK and how he describes the wiring.

6. I think you have discovered the cruize switch. The interlock is located on the fwd side of the pedal about an inch from the very, very, very top. Black and rectangular in shape. Long wire lead that is approx six to eight inches long.

BTW, the '86's didn't have the clutch pedal interlock switch - you can start an '86 without pressing the clutch pedal down. They added that in '87 as a safety feature.

here's some crappy web cam pictures of the starter kill plug:

Its hard to see in the picture, but there is the large gauge Blk/Green from the interlock switch and the large gauge blk/wht going to the starter as well as the two small gauge wires in it.

 

and plugged into the kill relay and mounted in the factory location.

 

The kill relay is only on cars with the factory alarm, and even then not always. I've seen some '87 Turbos with a factory-installed jumper wire instead of the relay.

Yep thats true... and it sounds like the one this thread about doesn't have the relay either.

But I didn't have a car with just the jumper available for a picture this morning. Thats why I took the picture of just the plug. The plug here is the important thing.

 

I looked at my 87 turboii and it has no interlock sw which should have been located at the very top of the clutch sw.

On the starter cut plug with the blue connector located under the trail coil assy......I pulled that mess up where it can be accessed readily and use it as a remote start switch. Pull the blue plug off and jumper 12v to the black/white wire from the battery positive. Starter guarenteed to turn over(out of gear, please).

I'd bet the real problem is with the black wire exiting the engine fuse box. Its connector is just four inches from the box. Spade connector. Comes apart easily. Feeds the ignition switch.

Okay, we got into the car again tonight. She does have the jumper on that one plug.

I got my neighbour to take some digicam pics of the switch on the backside (away from the firewall) of the clutch pedal, but they're too fuzzy to see the wires colours clearly.

I looked at my 86, and the wires coming out of the switch's connector are the same colour on mine as on hers.

We're going to try to bum a better digicam by the weekend.

And we will check up on the wire below the engine fuse box. Everything looks okay, but we'll yank it apart and make sure it's 100%.

Just to give an update on this thread (if anyone's still paying attention) Amur_ has lost his internet connection and can not get online. This should be fixed soon, but I don't know when.

 

Okay, on my neighbours PC.

We got into the car once more last night and did/found the following:

- when we jumped the plug that goes to the interlock, we got power to the b/w wire that goes to the top post on the starter. But the starter still wouldn't crank for us.

- the black wire below the engine fuse panel is all good and fine.

- this engine had carbon lock. It's been soaking in ATF for the last 2 weeks and last night we put it in 5th, pushed it backwards and she rolled!
So we tried to push-start her in 2nd. We tried 3 or 4 times. Each time we got a several pops, but she didn't come close to catching. We'll try tow starting her as soon as we can find a suitable chain (unless we get the starter going 1st.)

- I'm gonna swap her starter for mine on Saturday to see if it's just a dead starter (haven't had time to do that 'til now...)

- the two wires that I was originally trying to ID in this thread go to the reverse light switch on the side of the tranny.


I'll post the results from Saturday's efforts at my 1st opportunity. And I'll give Infini a noogie for not being more upbeat!

 

Blegh. I was just about to post that stuff. 13.5 hours at canadian tire is just NOT conductive to having an upbeat personality. At all.

It was her starter. It's garbage. I put mine in and *zap* she turned over. And over. And over. But she wouldn't start. She's got a belly full of ATF, so I'm not discouraged yet. Infini's gonna work on tagging another starter as well as a new fuel filter (don't think we changed the old one out during the swap.)

I dumped more ATF into the plenum, and also into the nipple that the line from the pressure sensor (air) plugs into just above the exhaust manifold (figured it couldn't hurt.)

Earliest we'll be hitting it again is tomorrow morning.

And, yup, I'll do a search or two to see what other advice there is on things to check when she isn't starting. But don't let that keep anyone from posting their thoughts here.

CAS = Crank Angle Sensor.
