trouble shooting. Need advice.

88 gxl

I have an 88 GXL And Well i have a few issues. One is OLD but has been doing it off and on for a long time.. The other started tonight. Let me start with what happened tonight.

Im hitting what seems to be a 3,800 rpm wall. But more like 4,500 to 5,000 RPM. Its not like a DEAD hard wall. But it bounces back to 5 k . that was on the way to the store. On the way back it didn't do it. Any ideas?

Now on to whats been going on for months. if not a year or so. And these two COULD be related. Sometimes i have gobs of power and the car seems LOUD.
And other times the car is Quiet and not much power at all. I cant understand it,

The ports are WIRED open. so it should not be related to the ports. The cats are gone. I have a straight pipe going to stock mufflers. All i can think is there could be a chance the exhaust pipe has something in it blocking and sometimes its not blocking. Its strange.

I was also thinking maybe the trailing or leading coil is cutting out leaving one set of coils working at times. But can't prove it yet..

Anybody that might have a tip or two feel free to throw it my way. Thanks

From Seatown peace
