hey i have 90 gxl 5spd it is great car but it seems like my tranny is going out.... it used to chirp went mashing on it to shift to second it would chirp like the syncros aren't spinning fast enough... it was fine then one day i was driving it and it didn't want to shift to 3rd at all so i stopped and it didn't want to go into 1st, 3rd, or 5th??? but others fine... so i took off in second turned around and i put in 1st like nothin ever happened.. so next day i drove again and sometimes it doesn't want to go to 3rd mostly on down shifts but sometimes on up shifts.... ne ideas?????? and how much does new tranny cost? ne ideas where i can get one? or does ne one know where i can get stuff to rebuild mine? or is ne body selling there tranny good working condition... so thx for ne help

Sounds like your tranny is dying.. I guess... I mean your description isn't great.. but from what you are saying, you are unable to shift into certain gears... which is typically syncros. Rebuilding it yourself is going to be REAL hard since you need special tools, but if you can manage, you can get the parts from mazda for relatively cheap. Its the tools/labor thats hard.

It would be easier to find a lower-mileage working one locally and pick it up, swap it in.

ya i can get the tools and i have some one experienced to do it with i was just wondering how much it would cost??? is it more cost effective to put diff one in or just rebuild wat costs less

Rebuilding it will cost 300-400 dollars in parts. Used ones go from 50-250 dollars for good ones.

its a toss up because if you can get it rebuilt properly it would be worth the money because you know its good. buy a used one and its kind of taking a risk... look around junkyards, forum for super cheap ones
