Yeah, sounds really familiar to me, except mine is a 1st gen. I have all the same symptons. It is my pilot bearing! I cant take my trans off, it is stuck like chuck! I have tried for hours to get it off, but nothing. Hope you dont have the same problem, because it is a BITCH! If any one has any ideas on how to remove my transmission, it will help. I am currently pulling on the trans with a come along chained to my rear end and hammering the **** out of the bell housing with a 2x4 and 5# hammer? NOT WORKING! Iam lost, but not quiting, still banging away, trying anything?

Plasma Cutter

Well you should be able to just cut around the bell housing, that would save the rest of the tranny and if it still didn't get you anywhere with the clutch and stuff it would atleast make the engine easier to get out. I know you aren't worried about the tranny but it would be the most non destrictive way to cut it.

I wouldnt cut anything, I got my trans out yesterday and all it took was some major prying with a crow bar. I just started to not care about breaking stuff and pried my *** off! Now Iam back on the streets! feels good!

Best (and safest) bet is to pull as a unit and split on the floor. I would not get in there with a plasma, tool much that can go wrong.

It the pilot bearing is sezed to the input, removing the pp bolts will do little, unless your looking to cut the input shaft. this I have done on the ground for the same reasons your experiencing.

I am sure that testicular fortitude can split the eng/trans. i was speaking to using a plasma cutter on the trans in the car. not cool in my book.

Remove the engine/trans and bash in the bellhousing with a sledge hammer. Put boards over the engine to protect it.

You guys like distruction! I would not break anything that doesnt break on its own. If it breaks while prying or hammering let it be, but to purposely break it doesnt make sense?

If you pry you will hurt the engine, which is worth keeping according to our original poster. If you bash in the bellhousing with a sledge hammer (and have good aim), you will get access to the transmission input shaft and have a lot of fun on the way there.

I have a 1979 RX7 i’ve put a new clutch in mine and then it started acting up as well not going into gear and I’ve just put a new slave Cylinder, master cylinder to the clutch bled it properly, And it still wouldn’t go in gear so I started to take my transmission back out and it is stuck also it wiggles I have all six bolts out. And I am kinda stuck myself did hitting it the a mallet and flat head hurt anything on the motor or tranny?
