transmission spring
Just wondering if we had any transmission experts around. I have a pair of NA Manual boxes, that look almost identical, but one has a really stiff action on the shift and one you can use your pinky (This with a shortened shift lever so maybe 2" long).
I got both boxes at the sametime, no history but believe they were recons.
Anyhoo one of them was missing a cap screw on top of the spring that does something to do with selection. I got curious and the box with the stiff shift has springs that are long enough to reach the top of the housing so are compressed by the cap screw. The one with the light shift has short ones that the cap screw doesn't compress.
The box is going in a car tommorrow so I'd like to put the right one in, but have no idea how to tell which springs are the right ones. Once its in, i can't get at the bolts to change them
