Question Transmission Question

I have always assumed that all 2nd gen NA cars had the same transmission. Is this not correct? I have a tranny out of an 88 'vert. Will it work in any NA 86 to 91 RX-7 (both coupe and convertible)? If not, what are the differences and what models have what? Thanks!

There is a difference between the turbo and non turbo transmissions. The non turbo bellhousing will not fit around a turbo flyhweel. I don't know about a difference between the coupe and convertible trannys.

all NA trannys will work on another NA...S4 and S5 only have a 5th gear difference!

Even convertibles? I was looking up clutches today and noticed different part numbers between coupe and 'vert and S4 and S5. Why the difference if the trannys are the same?
