How much abuse can the stock TII tranny take?

What other options besides the stock TII tranny do I have?

I've been trying to find out what tranny guys with over 350hp are using. It's a daily drivin vehicle (go ahead and say that's stupid), and occasionally drivin hard on the weekends, so I'm trying to find out what I should do to my drivetrain to make sure it can hold up.

I have heard of the mazda hardened gears and of people using a tranny called a jericho or something in the scca, but from what i've read the TII tranny is pretty well built and can hold up pretty well.

 

I have heard that they are tougher than the FD transmissions too. I have never broken one, or even an NA one myself, so I have to go on hearsay.

One note: any transmission will break if you try to run it with bad countershaft bearings (improper gear lash), bad synchronizers (wearing the shift splines off by grinding) or terribly worn gears (improper gear lash), so make sure your transmission is in good internal shape.

Also: You can drive the car hard without abusing the transmission. let up on the gas to shift, shift slowly, then let the clutch up gently, then floor it again, looses more boost, but saves driveline.

 

From what I understand the T2 tranny and drivetrain is good for up to 400hp. After that...

 

The stock TII transmission is good for at least 400bhp on a road race car. The Jericho 5-speed transmission retails for about $5,500. The Guru hardened components cost about $9,500 AUD.

 

It is proven the TII tranny can hold over 500hp the FD tranny can barely handle that.

since you have a TII you're not really going to break the drivetrain unless it was previously neglected and harshly treated.

you have no business even thinking about using a Jericho tranny as that is a race only tranny, uses straight cut gear which makes it very whiny(ever play GT3/4 with stage 1 or above tranny?) and the prices start at $3k and above.... and to change the gear ratio's makes it more costly. plus it needs to be serviced on a frequent basis.


the TII tranny is very well built. since you heard the FD guys go for a TII tranny it should tell you something. even the rear end can handle alot more than the FD.

you shouldnt worry about your drivetrain. they are really beefy and can handle pretty much anything.

a great investment into beefing up your -train is to rebuild the tranny and use synthetic gear oil or GM Syncromesh, and rebuild the rear end with hardened ring and pinion or cryo-treat and either stay with the stock LSD or go for broke and get a Kaaz, Cusco, Quaife, Mazdaspeed but 1.5 way, not a 2-way.

it will give you a great feeling and peace of mind knowing that your stuff if in good working order and can take some punishment.
